:
One door closes; four more open. I am excited about new prospects. I feel older and wiser already: new gossip, new rumors, new triangles of love and new crosses to bear are revealed to me. I can feel the wrinkles of the crone in my eyes when I smile and grin at the changes all around. Perhaps I will use the wiles of the matron to lure a wounded bird to my breast; then, the favors of the maiden to couch them in my nest. Could I live with myself if I do so? Could I live with myself if I do not?
Nanotechnologists have a keen interest in superfluids, where matter where unusual properites of viscosity and conductivity are supported. Even light, whose speed is considered inviolate, must slow, and where the liquid defies gravity as a creeping film thinner than the tips of pins. I don't pretend to understand it all. What I do know is that the most practical superfluid is helium-4 chilled to just a few degrees Kelvin above absolute zero. There are few who have the resources to produce it. There are still fewer who would consider administrating a superfluid colonic to a willing subject.
I suspect I would have enjoyed it more if I weren't already sore from a previous impulse. An impulse that, for the record, I do not regret. Quite the opposite -- in all confidence, thank you for opening a door that was closed fast for too long.
